Firmex Donates to Brain and Behavior Research Foundation in Support of Mental Health

Charitable contribution by virtual data room provider goes toward research that helps alleviate suffering caused by mental illness.

TORONTO, December 17, 2020—Firmex, the most widely used provider of virtual data rooms, today announced for the third straight year its donation of $20,000 to the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation (BBRF).

Made on behalf of its clients, the donation reflects Firmex’s belief in the BBRF’s mission to alleviate suffering caused by mental illness by awarding grants that lead to advances and breakthroughs in scientific research.

“This has been a challenging year with the global pandemic and associated restrictions taking a toll on mental health. With this in mind, our support of the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation is made in the hopes that our communities will benefit from the research funded by the foundation, where scientific advances will ultimately help overcome the challenges of mental illness,” said Joel Lessem, CEO of Firmex.

Support of the BBRF includes research into technologies that stimulate the brain non-invasively in a wide range of disorders including ADHD, PTSD, schizophrenia, suicide prevention, and depression. Since its inception, more than 5,000 scientists in more than 560 institutions around the world have received funding from the BBRF.

About the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation

The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation awards research grants to develop improved treatments, cures, and methods of prevention for mental illness. These illnesses include addiction, ADHD, anxiety, autism, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, depression, eating disorders, OCD, PTSD, and schizophrenia, as well as research on suicide prevention. Since 1987, the Foundation has awarded more than $418 million to fund more than 6,000 leading scientists around the world, which has led to over $4 billion in additional funding. 100% of every dollar donated for research is invested in research grants. BBRF operating expenses are covered by separate foundation grants. BBRF is the producer of the Emmy® nominated public television series Healthy Minds with Dr. Jeffrey Borenstein, which aims to remove the stigma of mental illness and demonstrate that with help, there is hope.
