Smartphones and tablets have changed the way we live and work, and certainly how we collaborate. The Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) trend is one that continues to transform the modern workplace, but one that also poses significant security risks.
Think of all the things stored on your iPad; confidential emails, auto-filled login details to websites, synced cloud storage apps, work files. All of this can be compromised if your iPad is lost or stolen.
Similarly in 2013, there was a 10 percent increase in the number of iPad, tablet and Kindle thefts reported across the UK’s rail network. Of the 949 reported thefts, only 2 percent of the devices were recovered by their owners.
These low recovery rates are surprising, considering all the security features now available on these devices. Apple in particular has worked hard over the last couple of years to improve its security offering on iOS devices. However, many people are still clearly unaware of what security features are available, and what benefits they offer.
After all, you just never know when you might need them.
